Biography

John S. Kennerdell, MDWhile studying biology at Bucknell, John Kennerdell was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and active with Cap and Dagger, Concern and Action, Chorale, and Phi Sigma biology honor society.

Following graduation from the Temple University School of Medicine, he served in the U.S. Navy before pursuing a private ophthalmology practice. He was acting chairman of ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and, in 1985, became the chairman of the department of ophthalmology at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, a department he developed over the course of 11 years.

He is now a professor of surgery (ophthalmology) at Medical College of Pennsylvania, chairman of the department of ophthalmology at Allegheny General Hospital, and adjunct professor of both neurology and ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

He has received numerous professional awards during his illustrious career, including the Senior Honor Award of the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 1997. He has made more than 20 presentations throughout the world and his published contributions to medical literature have resulted in more than 130 peer-reviewed papers, 28 book chapters, and two books.
